The first Hope Public School System was started as an initiative of World Hope Pakistan in 2010. All funds were raised and supported from within Pakistan. The school is in a poor village in Lahore. The teachers are volunteers and/or are on a very minimal wage supported by our local World Hope Welfare Network, Pakistan. The school is religiously open, and due to limited job opportunities and oppression in the area, the school targets poor and disadvantaged kids for educating.
There are currently 130 children in the school, along with 6 teachers. (one of which is the principle) The teachers come from a variety of backgrounds. The principal is a Muslim lady who is experienced in education and volunteers her time. The main male teacher whose with a minimal wage and accomodation supported by a local Christian church. The other teachers are young women who have been rescued from extremist areas and the the result of the adult education curriculum.
In 2011, we are looking to raise funds for to equip the school and students with warm, winter uniforms and a desk / chair for each child to get them of the cold ground.
This is a long term project of World Hope Network. With Illiteracy at approximately 50% in Pakistan, and with most poor families unable to send their kids to school, we strongly believe that this is an important opportunity for us to concentrate on a long term vision of educating the next generation of Pakistani children.
Flood Relief Medical Mission- late 2011 / early 2012
Volunteers needed for Pakistan Medical Mission:
As well as needing extra volunteers to distribute aid / relief kits, (including beds, food clothing, blankets etc) the late 2011 / early 2012 medical mission will provide medical aid to flood affected families in the village of Mian Issa, north of Nowshera in the north west province of Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The town is situated on the bank of River Kabul. Officials believe that World Hope Network is the first charity / humanitarian aid organisation to distribute aid in this particular village. We have been shown incredible favour, with government MPs joining with us to assist, protect and guide us in the best way to work within Pakistan. Local hospitals are also joining in our efforts to supply free medicines and support of our 2010/11 relief efforts. Help is flowing in from everywhere from WITHIN PAKISTAN.
During our November 2010 aid relief, Dr Slamth Masih joined the team to provide a medical clinic where we were able to provide medication for diahorrea and other ailments as well as simple pain relief and advice / referrals for further treatments.
In 2011/12, further to giving medication for diahorea and other ailments, we are looking to treat other noted health problems such as respiratory infections and skin diseases.
